Writing for Fun (Penny Rader)

Having one of those days or weeks where you just can't focus on your novel or novella? Consider taking a play break - choose a topic or two from Write Source and see where it goes.

I saw this on Twitter and it really spoke to me. Maybe it'll speak to you, too.

Today — do not be angry.
Today — do not worry.
Today — be kind to yourself and others.
Today — be honest to yourself and others.
Today — work diligently.

Wow. Looks like no one wants to play. I'll go first, with abbreviated versions. :D

Sometimes I wish... we could all just get along and love each other. I know stories have to have conflict…just wish my life didn’t.

Something I don't understand How people can not like to read. Just boggles my mind.

Grandma's attic I was never in a grandma’s attic, but I imagine it’d be full of all kinds of fun stuff: cool furniture, dress up clothes, intriguing mirrors that’d let me see into the past (not so sure I want to see the future!), old-fashioned games, and it would have window seats at every corner with lots and lots of books.

If I could be someone else, I would be...gorgeous, slender, classy and a great dancer…and overflowing with complete plot lines for my stories.

If I were a superhero, I'd be...able to clean my house with a twinkle of my nose and eliminate bullyism.

The toys I'll never give up are the jointed teddy bear, Thistle I got when I was nine and the Raggedy Ann doll my grandmother made me.

I didn't see this until after midnight so let me give it a shot.
Sometimes I wish I could have tons of money to share with family members who are having such a hard time.
If I were a superhero, I'd be able to cure my husband of his illnesses then try it on others.

What treasures you have, Melissa!

I don't have any toys from my childhood. I do have a copy of Little Women my grandma gave me when I was a kid and the set of Little House books I bought for myself because no one else picked up on my hints. ;D

Thanks for dropping by, Kathy. I wish I had the ability to grant your wish. It's a wish I share. And what a great idea for a superhero.

I know a lot about Regency England.
I wish I was healthy.
Something I don't understand --how ungrateful people are for what they have and how worse someone other than themselves always has it.
What makes me special- that I am who I am
I'll never eat another -pickled pigs feet--but then I never ate the first one either. Couldn't come up with anything--if it has calories and the more the merrier I'll probably eat it.
Grandma's attic--never was in Grandma's but my mom and dad's was awesome. You entered it through a door you pushed up--it was actually the 3rd story to the old farm house. It was filled with all kinds of treasures including fireworks!
If I could be someone else, I would be Nora Roberts or at least have her work ethic!
We got caught! Sad to say I was a goody-two-shoes.
The toys I'll never give up - I have my metal doll house with all it's detail furniture and people.
If I were a superhero, I'd be Wonder Woman--able to key out manuscripts with no trouble at all.
Penny--thanks for the diversion. I really needed it today!

Sometimes I wish I was better organized.

Something I don't understand. How do ink jet printers really work?

What makes me special? Everything I am and have done my whole life. Just as everything you are and have done in your life makes you special.

I'll never eat another spoonful of dirt. I don't care if everyone in my second grade class thinks I'm a wimp or not.

If I could be someone else I'd be a dinosaur hunter and dig in the dirt or I'd be a bulldozer operator.

If I were a superhero, I'd clean houses at the speed of light and let millions of women a day have shiny floor and sparkling windows.

I know too much about the Amish. I don't know enough about cars.

Toys I'll never give up? Pumba and the Lion King in my hall closet.

Thanks Penny for jump starting my writer's brain this evening.

Love your post, Joan.

Pickled pigs feet is something I most definitely would not knowingly eat...unless someone's life depended on it...and then they'd really owe me.

Would love to see your doll house! I always wanted one. Used to love to play Barbies. Still do -- good thing I have granddaughters cuz they love them too.

LOL, Pat. Not wanting to eat another spoonful of dirt cracked me up. Don't think I ever did that, but daughter #3 might've. She was such a nature nut when she was little. Loved to dig in the dirt and collect all sorts of bugs and wounded creatures. She'd come in with dirt all the way up to the rims of her eyes.

Dinosaur hunter or bulldozer operator, huh? I'm sensing a dirt theme here. :D
