Original Cast Members of Sapphire & Gold (Penny Rader)

Sapphire and Gold

This month's topic is Your book is a movie!  Who is your dream cast?

When I first dreamed up Sapphire and Gold, a Colonial American historical romance, here's who inspired a few of my characters:

Nick Mancuso - Bing image

Derek Tremaine (hero)  - a sea captain on a quest

Morgan Brittany - Bing image

Alexandra Whittaker (heroine)  - a healer on the run

Robert Goulet - Bing image

Bartholomew Taylor  (villain)

Michael Bolton - Bing image

Travis (hero's best friend)

Kirstie Alley - Bing image

Jillian

Since this story first started rolling around my head 20+ years ago, Derek and Alexandra and the other characters would have to be recast for a movie being made today.

I can see these two as Derek & Alexandra:

Anson Mount - Bing image

Natalie Portman - Bing image

I'm drawn to pictures - for characters, for settings, etc.  How about you?  Are you a visual person, too, or are you lucky enough to have all the parts of your stories pop into your head without the help of images?

Penny, I'm a very visual person so I like pictures to look at for characters and settings, but they pop into my head too. It would be fun to see Natalie Portman in a historical.

Penny, when I wrote Where There Is Will, I envisioned Julianne Moore playing the heroine, but as I described her for my cover art, I realized that Debra Messing was a better candidate. Chris Hemsworth is the closest I can find for the hero, Will, but his eyes aren't right. A young Michael Bolton is actually a better fit!

Wow! Robert Goulet. Now, that was eye candy, back in the day. I guess that makes me old, huh?

Love the pics, Penny!

Hi Melissa, I've been fan of Natalie Portman since I saw her in Where the Heart Is.

Thanks for visiting, Monica. I had a real thing for Michael Bolton a few years ago. LOL. Listened to his music over and over, watched his videos as often as I could and almost got to see him in concert.

Rox, if that makes you old, then I'm old, too. ;D Robert Gouldet seemed like he could bethe perfect villain: handsome, charming, slick.

I haven't decided who I'd cast as Bartholomew if S&G were being made into a movie now. I wonder if Dermot Mulroney or Matt Bomer could play bad guys? Though Matt's a bit too pretty and slight to portray Bartholomew. Perhaps Robert Downey Jr. I'm a huge fan of his.

I'm one of the oldies. I saw Robert Goulet when he performed Camelot in Wichita in the 70's. He would make a perfect villain. I love James Caviezel and it isn't just his good looks I just now thought. Will have to think about that. Great post Penny!

Joan, did you ever attend Kenley Star Theater? I saw John Raitt in Camelot, Robert Horton in The Pajama Game, Ann Blyth in The Merry Widow, Gisele MacKenzie in Gypsy, and a bunch more. Too bad I didn't see Robert Goulet in anything. ;) Lucky you!

Rox I always wanted to go to Kenley but never made it. Before Music Theatre of Wichita came into existence there was the Kenley Theatre here and they always brought it a "star." Buddy Ebsen, Giselle McKenzie, Gale Storm, John Payne, Zero Mostel to name a few I remember.
